Dec 6: I am so excited about this dress. I am new to knitting (or crochet). I knitted 1 beret and 1 scarf before this project. How obnoxious of me to even consider this dress! Wish me luck.
Dec 12: The skirt is done. It is a little big about 1.5” in waist and length). I should have taken off 1 rep from the pattern. But it still looks good. I am thinking to wash it and put it in the dryer for some serious shrinking purposes, but only when bodice is finished! Dec 14: The waistband is done. Moving on to bodice.
Jan 6: Bodice is the hardest of all! Ripped it several times and re-started from scratch several times. With the help of Ravelry members (special thanks to Klarice), my bodice is finally forming into something recognizable. Made it a little longer. I am planning on adding 3/4 sleeves (just to make my life a little more complicated). And again, Ravelry members gave me some literature to read on how to make sleeves. In the meanwhile, a seamstress is doing my navy silk slip for the dress. I already bought black pearl buttons too. Can not simply wait to see the end result of my hard work.
Jan 13, 2012: Finally, it is over! Lessons learned: Swatches can be very helpful not only in gauging, but for pattern study. It would have saved me 3 weeks of struggling with the bodice if I did Shetland swatch.
